Violence is everywhere, in magazines in the shops, on the TV, on websites like YouTube as well as in video games. Yet, why is it that those video games are said to be the biggest media source responsible for the violent outbursts of different individuals? Is this really the case? Every eight out of ten homes in the United Kingdom own a current generation games console and video games have become a fantastic source of education when helping kids to learn, such websites like educationcity.com or the VTech Learning System that teach kids literacy, numeracy and the sciences through their games. However it seems an American politician called Joe Biden deemed that violent video games should be taxed just because some isolated cases that†¦show more content†¦These measures that are being used are complete guff at getting even minor acts of aggression. Also he goes on to describe the noise test having a â€Å"methodological flexibility problem† validating that researchers ca n pick and choose what results or outcomes that fit the hypothesis that they want to achieve. Thus, showing the evidence that was concluded is false. Secondly, you could not tax violent video game just because it is violent. American Politician, Joe Biden has told the CEO of Evengelistic Association, that there would be no legal reason to prevent the government from taxing violent video games. In other words, not reason to tax images or art that the government deems to offensive. Unfortunately for Mr Biden there is a legal reason that video games cannot be taxed. The right of free speech. This right is held up from games like Tetris all the way to extremes of Grand Theft Auto 5. Evolution of automotive transpertation Essay In my research paper I am going to tell you how the first automobile and the evolution of the automobile helped the United States be able to expand as rapidly as it did with the help of the automobile and its many uses. With the invention of the automobile came a new sense of freedom. The automobile has been a force that has helped to set the course for the future. In the year 1903 a man named Henry Ford invented the first gas powered combustion engine. With this new engine he was able to construct a personal conveyance which was to be named the automobile. With his invention of the automobile traveling became faster and more efficient then a horse and carriage. His first cars sold for about 900 dollars. This meant that pretty much only the wealthy could afford the luxury of having the first horseless carriage. The first engine was a 20 horsepower straight four cylinder that had a top speed of 25 mph. The first cars were primarily made out of wood, which was hand carved by a skilled carpenter. The first cars had the bear necessities to be driven. It had a windshield, front seats and back seats that held four people, the engine, the gas tank that was positioned under the back seat, a radiator, and lights for night driving. The first car had a 3 speed manual transmission that was operated by leavers and a clutch. The transmission was used to transfer the power of the engine into a gearbox that caused the car to move. The gearbox is what controlled how much of the engines power was used to start the car in motion and how fast the engine must run to maintain a constant speed. The clutch was used to allow the gears to be shifted without any damage being done to the gears or gearbox. The gears controlled the speed the car traveled at and how much power the engine used to get up to speed. The gears played an important part in the cars motion. Without the gearbox the car would not be able to move itself. In the years to come the automobile became a status symbol among society. The people who owned cars were considered to be wealthy or part of a high-income family. If you owned a car you had the ability to travel around urban cities or take long trips without having to take a train everywhere you wanted to go. As the car became more and more popular the demand became greater. Car builders at first produced only a few cars per day. Then with the invention of the assembly line that changed. With the invention of the assembly line in 1907, car out put began to increase dramatically. In 1903, 12 skilled workers were able to assemble 144 cars a week. Then in 1905, 300 workers could assemble 7,500 cars a week. With the assembly line each individual was given a task that he would perform more then 1000 times a day. Henry Ford was the first to double his wages for workers as more automobiles were built and the price of the automobile went down. As more and more cars were sold Henry Ford was able to pay his workers a little more as the prices of cars slowly dropped and as cars became more in demand. Soon more and more people would own a car no matter what their economic income was. From 1914 to 1927 car prices dropped from 500 dollars to as low as 300 dollars. With the dropping prices cars became more affordable. Two American Dreams In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, many themes are enclosed; the most salient of these themes is related to the American Dream. The American Dream is based on the idea that any person, no matter what they are, can become successful in life by his or her hard work. The dream also embodies the idea of a self-sufficient person, an entrepreneur making it successful for themselves. The Great Gatsby is about what happened to the American Dream during the 1920s, an era when the dream had been corrupted by the relentless pursuit of wealth. In this novel, the pursuit of the American Dream and the pursuit of a romantic dream are the ultimate causes of the downfall of the book's title character, Jay Gatsby. Throughout the story, Jay Gatsby avoids telling the truth of his hard, unglamorous childhood. He does this to keep his superficial image of himself and to save himself from the embarrassment of being in a state of poverty during his youth. His parents were lazy and unsuccessful peo ple who worked on the farm, and because of this Gatsby never really accepted them as his parents. Jay Gatsby's real name is James Gatz and he is from the very unexciting North Dakota. He changed his name to Jay Gatsby when he was seventeen years old, which was the beginning of his version of the American Dream. In all realities Gatsby arose from his Platonic view of himself, the idealistic self-view that a seventeen year old boy has of himself (Fitzgerald 104). Though concealed for most of the story, Gatsby's embarrassing childhood is a major source of determination in his attempt to achieve the American Dream. During Gatsby's early adulthood, he joined the army. He first met Daisy when he was at Camp Taylor and he and some other officers stopped by her house. He initially loved Daisy because of her extraordinary house and because many other men had been with her already. One evening in October, during 1917, Gatsby fell in love with Daisy Fay, and in turn she fell in love with Gatsb y. ?Daisy was the first ?nice' girl that he had ever known? (Fitzgerald 155). Their love was an uneasy one at first for Gatsby to comprehend because he wasn't rich by any standards and he felt that he wasn't worthy of Daisy's affection, but his uneasiness was uplifted when he and Daisy fell in love and when he found out that Daisy knew a lot because he knew a variety of things that she didn't. Their month of love was physically ended when Gatsby had to go to war, but their emotional love never ended. As Gatsby performed brilliantly throughout the war, they wrote each other frequently. Daisy couldn't understand why Gatsby couldn't come home. She wanted her love to be their with her, she needed some assurance that she was doing the right thing. It didn't take long for Daisy to get over Jay because in the Spring of 1918 she fell in love with a rich, former All-American college football player named Tom Buchanon. This broke Jay Gatsby's heart. His love for Daisy was a strong one and he was determined to get her back. This first love with Daisy had a great impact on his idea of one of the aspects of achieving the American Dream. Throughout the novel, the reader is mislead about how Gatsby became wealthy. Gatsby claims on several different occasions that he inherited his parents' immense fortune. This is a story that Gatsby made up in order to keep his self-image up by not letting people know about his childhood. The truth is that Gatsby got rich by illegal measures. He was friends with the notorious Meyer Wolfsheim. Meyer Wolfsheim was the racketeer who supposedly fixed the World Series of 1919. He was Gatsby's connection to organized crime, in which Gatsby became rich. Gatsby's true sources to richness were selling bootleg liquor in his chain of drug stores and creating a giant business to get rid of and sell stolen Liberty bonds (Mizener 188). Gatsby's methods of gaining wealth corrupt the morality of the American Dream although they help him to achieve it. It
